Animated vs static: GIF, WebM or PNG?
For a still screen, download the PNG (1920 × 1080) and add it as an Image source. For motion, a WebM is the best choice — it's full resolution, smooth and small, and OBS plays it perfectly as a Media source on loop. A GIF also works and plays everywhere, but it's limited to 256 colours and larger files, so this tool exports GIFs at a lighter resolution. Use WebM when you can, GIF when you need maximum compatibility.
How to add an animated screen in OBS
Create a new scene, add a Media Source (for WebM/GIF) or an Image source (for PNG), and pick the file you exported. Enable Loop for video and GIF. Switch to that scene before you go live, on breaks, or when you end the stream.
Using your own background photo
Choose "Your photo", upload an image, then drag the preview to reposition it and use the zoom and darken sliders to frame it and keep your text readable.
